Everything comes in threes……….. Triangles, triads, complaints (his, hers, and the truth), my blog is no different. I had a busy three weeks, the holidays are very busy and an ever changing work schedule only makes time more difficult. As Christmas comes to a close and the New Year inches closer I will share one negative, one positive, and one idea of change for the domestic violence cause.     Since it is days after Christmas, Santa is on his way back to the North Pole and Jesus is a few days older a positive note comes first. There are many good things coming to the cause, there are many good, strong people involved in it. This year more change will come, more lives will be touched, and at least one less victim will be the end result.    To every positive thing there is a negative reaction, domestic violence is no different. In a three day span, prior to Christmas there were twenty-eight (limited counting) of deaths directly related to domestic violence. This is an unacceptable and high number. For years I have been involved with public safety, in that time I have responded to several incidents involving domestic violence. It always used to frustrate me when the victim would return home or not take advantage of a chance to escape. Dealing with this, I always found it easier to take the stance of it being the victim’s fault instead of facing the reality. By making it “someone else’s problem” I slept much better at night. That all changed on June 10th, 2011 when a friend of mine that I had always respected and found to be a very good person was brutally murdered by an aggressive ex-boyfriend. Prior to her murder, he had stalked and harassed her for quite some time.   That personal touch made domestic violence no longer “someone else’s” battle, but mine. I in-turn must not let others fall victim to my prior thought process. It is every person’s responsibility. Once we know something so evil and costly to our fellow man exists, we must do our part to make change and help people.
